Awesome FestivalREDWOOD CITY, CA - May 5, 2011 - The Aging Services Collaborative of Santa Clara County is hosting their inaugural AWE*some Film Festival (Aging with Excellence) featuring local and international, intergenerational films and an Academy Award-winning documentary film that honor and celebrate positive aging on Saturday, May 7, 2011.

“May is Older Americans Month and this film festival is an opportunity to portray our older population in a positive manner. We will honor and pay tribute to their images, accomplishments and contributions dur-ing this day-long event,” says Magnolia Prime founder and CEO Karen Routt.

Karen continued, “I am on an intergenerational panel that I’m sure will generate a variety of views and perspectives.” Vivian Silva, geriatric care manager/social worker and educator will facilitate the panel that will discuss and share their respective insights on myths, realities, and positive aging experiences.

Attendees will have an opportunity to visit table sponsor exhibits to learn about community resources for older adult services in Santa Clara County. The six documentary films are from award-winning producer Dorothy Fadiman of Concentric Media and from the film library of Legacy Film Series. They include:

1. “Close Harmony” is an Academy Award documentary about a senior chorus and an elementary school chorus who practice for a combined concert and along the way dissolve stereotypes about one another.

2. “Let’s Face It” is about seven women aged 48 to 63 who speak openly with wry humor about the wrin-kles and lines on their faces whereby some come to terms with aging.

3. “Elsa and Fred”- romance blooms for a retired 77-year old hypochondriac widower who meets Elsa, a feisty and elderly Argentinean in Madrid. This film is in Spanish with English subtitles.

The festival will take place from 9am – 4pm at the Auditorium located at Good Samaritan Hospital, 2425 Samaritan Drive in San Jose, CA.
